A tool to link resources and uses
The Fresque des Ressources du Sous-sol is inspired by collaborative “fresco” workshops, widely acclaimed for their playful, interactive approach. The aim is to show how underground resources, which are essential to the manufacture of modern technologies, are part of our daily lives and meet the challenges of current transitions, be they energy, digital or ecological. Through maps representing key geoscience concepts, participants explore the cause-and-effect relationships between these resources, their uses and the challenges associated with their sustainable exploitation. The maps are illustrated and enriched with accessible educational content, making for an engaging and formative experience.
A tool adaptable to all audiences
Designed to meet the varied needs of its users, the fresco is available in two main formats:
- The classic format, adapted to in-depth workshops, invites participants to build their own links between the maps to better understand the challenges of underground resources.
- The faster “meetings” format offers a pre-established presentation of the links between resources and uses, ideal for events or short information sessions.
Whether for schools, local authorities or businesses, the fresco helps to clarify the choices and actions to be taken for a more sustainable future.
A response to current geoscience challenges
Subsoil resources play a major role in our daily lives, but they often remain little-known or poorly understood. Yet these resources are essential to the manufacture of batteries, solar panels, electric vehicles and digital equipment. The Fresque des Ressources du Sous-sol (Underground Resources Fresco) provides information and raises awareness of these issues, while showcasing professions and innovations in the geosciences.
A collaborative and evolving initiative
The Fresque des Ressources du Sous-sol is a continuous improvement process, with regular feedback from participants to refine its content and format. In 2025, a platform will be developed to enrich the bibliographical resources available and offer up-to-date summaries of industrial projects, training and careers related to the geosciences.
A tool for action
More than just an awareness-raising tool, the fresco is also intended as a lever for action. By highlighting the links between our consumption patterns and the exploitation of natural resources, it inspires more responsible behavior and supports informed decision-making by citizens and decision-makers alike. Presented for the first time at GEODAYS 2024, the Fresque des Ressources du Sous-sol has already met with an enthusiastic response from experts and the general public alike. The Fresco is a tool for raising the profile of the geosciences and promoting the sustainable and rational use of subsoil resources.
