The National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) is a public scientific and technological organization, operating under the autority of France’s Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. With 32,000 staff, including almost 24,500 permanent employees and a budget of 3.4 billion euros, CNRS is the largest public research organization in Europe. It is structured around 1,100 research units located throughout France and abroad - 95% of them are joint ventures with universities and other French research organizations. 18 Regional Offices manage these laboratories locally and liaise with local authorities and other academic partners. For the Aquitaine region, CNRS has 49 research laboratories with more than 1,400 employees and a budget of about 136 million euros.
